DESCRIPTION: The Tampa Water Department, a leading municipal water utility located on Florida's Gulf coast, is seeking an experienced professional engineer to lead its design section. The design section, composed 3 engineers and 8 drafting technicians, provides technical support for the Distribution and Production Divisions. This position reports directly to the Chief Engineer. The successful candidate will have responsibility for review and approval of all design criteria for contract documents to implement annual capital improvement projects, as well as review of all development proposals within the City of Tampa water service area. Current Water Department annual capital budget is approximately $10 million. Other requirements include considerable supervisory experience, and a thorough knowledge of the design principles and practices of civil engineering as applied to water distribution systems and minor water treatment projects. Candidates should possess good oral and written communication skills. Knowledge of hydraulic modeling is a plus. Applicants must have a minimum of a B.S. degree in Civil Engineering or related field, and must possess or be able to obtain a Florida P.E. license within 6 months.
