DESCRIPTION:
Journey-level work operating telephone, radio, and computer systems in the City's Public Safety Communications Center involving computerized radio dispatch of either police or fire rescue personnel. ONLY APPLICANTS POSSESSING THE FLORIDA NCIC/FCIC CERTIFICATION WILL BE CONSIDERED. Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma and one year of experience operating computerized radio dispatch equipment for police or fire rescue services with GPD or in a comparable public safety communication environment; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, ability and skills. Must be able to type 30 CWPM at time of testing. During five-week training period after employment, must successfully achieve typing speed of 40 CWPM. Position involves shift work on an assigned basis, is subject to scheduled and unscheduled mandatory overtime, and requires police security clearance to obtain access to the criminal justice computer system. Work is sedentary and requires prolonged hours entering data at a computer terminal.
