Welcome to the Local Government Institute Govtjob.Net is sponsored by the Local Government Institute (LGI). The Local Government Institute was established in Seattle Washington in 1988, and incorporated as an independent private tax-exempt 501(C)3 non-profit corporation in 1990. LGI is dedicated to improving the quality of local government nationally. Most of the work of the Institute is devoted to human resources related matters. GovtJob.Net was established in 1996, and began as the Local Government Job Network. The Job Net was initially a subweb of our LGI website and pointed to the Local Government Institute's main website at lgi.org. In May of 2000, GovtJob.Net was launched as a separate site under the continued sponsorship of the Local Government Institute. GovtJob.Net is a leading national resource for state and local government employment opportunities and information. In September of 2006, the LGI website was discontinued as a separately hosted unique website, and several of the key LGI files were integrated into the GovtJob.Net website. While LGI is still involved with all aspects of local government, the principle focus of the Institute is Human Resources. LGI publishes a number of self-help "how-to" technical assistance manuals and software, and provides consulting services to local government agencies. Since its creation in 1988, LGI has provided publications or services to more than 5,000 local governments in the U.S., as well as many state and national governments throughout the English speaking world.
