DESCRIPTION: Under
administrative direction, oversees, manages, administers and directs all
functions associated with the day-to-day and overall operation of the Public
Works Streets Division for the City of Gillette. This includes the areas of
Streets Maintenance and Storm Water Drainage.
Example of Duties: Performs a variety of management and supervisory functions.
Oversees and manages assigned staff and personnel. Establishes employee and
operational performance measures, goals, objectives and priorities.
Assesses and oversees modifications of operational and procedural policies and
procedures for the areas of street maintenance and storm water drainage.
Identifies and establishes protocols and processes. Recommends and implements
changes to existing policies and procedures. Identifies and monitors long and
short range departmental goals and objectives. Reviews and/or oversees approvals
of budget expenditures, purchases and procurement.
Provides advice and counsel to City administration regarding streets-related
issues and concerns. Represents the City of Gillette and the Public Works
Streets Division with a variety of public and City boards, committees, work
groups and related organizations. Conducts research, develops materials and
provides reports and/or recommendations regarding public works issues and
related matters. Performs other duties as assigned or required
Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Public
Administration, Business Administration, Management or closely related field is
required or equivalent combination of experience and/or education from which
comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved; Five (5) years of
relevant public works, rural and/or urban maintenance, industrial operations or
closely related experience that includes two (2) years of management and/or
supervision; Prior public sector experience desirable.
May be required to lift and/or carry heavy, bulky supplies, materials and/or
other items weighing up to 50 pounds; May be exposed to dangerous machinery,
potential physical harm, extreme weather conditions and infectious diseases; May
be required to work outside the traditional work schedule and is subject to call
out and/or callback.
The City of Gillette, population approximately 31,000, is located in the
northeast corner of Wyoming. The City is situated on the rolling plains of the
Powder River Basin between the Black Hills Mountains of South Dakota and the Big
Horn Mountains of Wyoming. Gillette is a family-oriented community with
excellent schools. Rich in Western history and tradition, and known as the
"Energy Capital of the Nation," Gillette's energy economy provides an excellent
