DESCRIPTION:  The North Metro Fire Rescue District is a dynamic organization comprised of 112 employees that provides fire and emergency services to a growing population of 105,000 residents in an area encompassing 115 square miles and includes the City/County of Broomfield, the City of Northglenn, and portions of unincorporated areas of Boulder, Jefferson and Weld counties. Located 10 miles north of downtown Denver, North Metro Fire Rescue District is a progressive, full service emergency response agency with a strong emphasis on excellence and continuous improvement.

The District is seeking experienced candidates for the position of Deputy Fire Chief to serve as a key member of its executive team, participate actively in decision making processes and along with the Fire Chief, work closely with the District’s five member governing board. The District currently has six fire stations and responds to approximately 7300 calls for service of which 70% are emergency medical calls. In 2006, voters of the District approved a $26 million bond issue to provide funding for construction of a new headquarters/administration facility, two new fire stations and a vehicle maintenance and state of the art training facility. Groundbreaking for the new training complex occurred in September 2007 and construction is anticipated to be completed in the fall of 2008.  The District’s total operating budget of $15.1 million is divided into six operational divisions including Administration, Emergency Operations, Fire Prevention, Training, Information Technology and Apparatus and Vehicle Maintenance.

The District seeks Candidates with a comprehensive knowledge of modern firefighting methods, emergency services, fire prevention, public education, fire safety, and fire inspection in a department or district serving a comparable or larger population. The next Deputy Chief must possess outstanding personal leadership and management skills, be able to make effective decisions in critical emergency operations and in daily operations, and possess strong administrative skills including experience in budgeting, collective bargaining and long and short range capital improvement and operations planning. Successful candidates will possess a bachelor’s degree in Fire Services, Fire Science, Public Administration or related discipline; Master’s Degree and/or EFO certification preferred. Candidates should have five to ten years increasingly responsible experience in fire service management with at least two years experience at the Battalion Chief level or above.
