DESCRIPTION: Intelligence Research Specialists in the NYPD’s Counterterrorism Bureau research, analyze, and report on global developments in terrorism and possible implications for New York City.  They are expected to independently and/or collaboratively develop and share intelligence and other information within the NYPD and with various government agencies investigating terrorist activities; perform sensitive and complex research and analysis; access classified and confidential information from federal databases; monitor information from many sources; liaise with field investigators; communicate open source information and analysis to private sector security officials; and develop and implement programs for the prevention of terrorist activities.  Intelligence Research Specialists often have sector, regional, and/or functional responsibilities.  They prepare detailed intelligence reports, presentations, and recommendations for top level law enforcement and government officials.

Qualifications: A Master’s degree or equivalent is highly preferred, though strong candidates with a Bachelor’s degree will be considered.  All candidates must have at least 1-2 years of relevant professional work experience in international research, intelligence analysis, or a related field.  All candidates should have proficiency in Microsoft applications, such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, as well as robust Internet researching capabilities and excellent written and verbal communication skills.  Foreign language skills are a plus.  While a security clearance is not a condition for hire, candidates should generally be eligible for one.
