COMPENSATION: SALARY
RANGE: $4,069 - $5,251 / Month; Whatcom County offers excellent benefits,

average of 12 holidays per year, and sick leave. County employees participate

DESCRIPTION: Oversees
capital projects of a complex nature for County park development. Responsible
for planning, facility design and development, property acquisition,
construction and contract oversight, permitting, funding, organizing, staffing,
coordinating and directing the efforts of staff and other work and community
groups to accomplish the mission, goals and vision of the Department and the
County. Responsible for maintaining continuity through the planning, funding,
and development phases and coordination with other agencies, programs and
departmental projects. Oversees the parks and open space element for
concurrency management. Represents Whatcom County by maintaining a professional
approach and demeanor in all activities. Ensures compliance with
department/County policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements and
legal requirements. Assists with the management of programs and staff in a
manner that ensures expenditures remain within budget guidelines. Develops
relationships with staff, other departments and individuals outside County
government that encourage participation, teamwork, effective relationships and
use of resources. Exercises independent judgment and discretion.
QUALIFICATIONS: Requires a Bachelor’s degree in landscape
architecture, landscape design, or a related field AND four years of
progressively responsible related experience in park planning, and design
INCLUDING two years of project supervisory experience.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Must obtain Washington State
Landscape Architecture License within twenty-four (24) months of employment and
maintain throughout employment. Must have a driving record that meets County
standards and possess a valid driver's license at time of hire and throughout
employment. Must pass job-related tests. Must be eligible to cross between the
United States and Canada. Background check must meet County criteria. Must
obtain a First Aid/CPR card within six (6) months of employment and maintain
throughout employment.
