DESCRIPTION: Directs award-winning department with $9 million budget and 60 full-time & 240 part-time/temporary employees in Golf Courses, Aquatics, Athletics, Community Centers, Fitness, Special Populations, Maintenance, Landscape, and Cemeteries. Supervises seven division heads. Directs and evaluates staff, deals with discipline and performance issues department-wide; coordinates a variety of departmental activities and initiatives; prepares and directs reports; develops, directs and monitors departmental goals, budget, and capital improvement program; spot checks programs and facilities; analyzes departmental services and revenues; addresses employee and citizen concerns and complaints; confers with Parks Advisory Board.

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management, Public Administration, or related field; six to nine years of progressive management experience as a director or manager in a public service agency, preferably the parks and recreation field. Experience with recreation programming and golf course management desirable. Certified Parks & Recreation Professional & Certified Parks & Recreation Executive credentials desirable. Possess the following skills: proven business management skills to run a public-oriented organization effectively, strategic planning, multi-tasking, facilitation, process improvement, and team and consensus building.  Residence within Bowling Green city limits is required after employment.

Home of Western Kentucky University, GM Corvette Plant, Fruit of the Loom. The Parks & Recreation Department has won several awards from the Kentucky Recreation & Park Society.
