DESCRIPTION: This novel position will perform responsible technical work in managing the City’s and North Carolina’s first municipal owned Fiber to the Premise Network.   Duties include, but are not limited to engineering the design, implementation, administration, and support of the video, telephone, and internet services. This position works under the supervision of the Director of Information Technology.  Position may supervise personnel as needed; and may be required to work occasional nights and/or weekends.

Qualifications: Applicant must have knowledge of: Electronics and communications that include voice and data design and installation; information and the current developments in video, telephone, and internet network technology; and electronics theory and application.  Must have knowledge of computer hardware and software on various platforms including change management, programming applications, and client-server and network communications. Must have skills in project management, systems analysis, and planning; and must have demonstrated the ability to; diagnose and resolve complex technical problems; evaluate training needs and objectives.  Must have also demonstrated the ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with all levels of the organization, vendors, and external agencies. 

A combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Business Information Technology, or related field with at least two years of communications experience, and five or more years of Cisco experience are required.  (Cisco Professional certification a plus.)   Applicants with Alcatel, Linux or Unix, and ISP experience will be preferred.  A valid Drivers License is required.
