DESCRIPTION: Installs, configures, troubleshoots, and provides administration for medium-sized Windows Server environment, including Active Directory, MS Exchange, and MS IIS setup and administration.  Analyzes future business needs, recommends changes and evaluates new products. Manages software licenses, maintains appropriate documentation. Assists with preparation and implementation of IT Operations projects. Provides high level technical support for information systems and infrastructure to ensure system reliability and  performance; creates and maintains user accounts. Provides local and remote server support of Win 2000/2003 infrastructure and system administration on data center servers which includes installs, maintains, monitors, troubleshoots, automates, and configures servers and applications.  Performs daily system monitoring, verifies the integrity and availability of hardware, server resources, enterprise systems and key processes. Reviews system logs, verifies completion of scheduled jobs and that daily backup operations are complete and successful according to established procedures.  Performs regular file archival and purge as necessary. Performs regular security monitoring to identify any possible intrusions; investigates and troubleshoots issues. Repairs and recovers hardware and/or software failures. Applies OS patches and upgrades on a regular basis, and upgrades administrative tools and utilities; configures and adds new services as necessary. Installs, upgrades and/or configures enterprise system software such as Exchange, Citrix, IIS web services, MS Terminal Services, or other third party applications, according to project or operational needs.  Configures CPU, memory, and disk partitions as required.  Maintains data center environmental and monitoring equipment. Performs analysis and engineering of SA-related solutions for various project and operational needs. Installs new or rebuilds existing servers and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.  Develops and maintains installation and configuration procedures. Prepares, presents, and creates various special and recurring reports using Crystal Reports, VB, or other applications.

Requires Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, management information systems, or related field AND three years enterprise-level MS Windows systems administration experience in a multi-server, networked environment using MS Exchange.  A combination of education, experience, and training may be applied in accordance with City of Las Cruces policy.

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:  Valid Class D driver’s license is required; MSCE 2003 certification required, or must be obtained within 90 days of employment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  Knowledge of:  Extensive knowledge of MS Windows Server 2003, 2005, MS Exchange, Active Directory; general knowledge of MS IIS, web hosting, firewalls, load balancing, clustering/replication, and SQL Server; basic networking in a CISCO environment; scripting languages to automate and support local and remote system administration functions; Standard windows batch shell scripting, VBScript, and WMI; Tivoli software; MS Visual Basic; .NET frameworks; virtualization, storage area networks; ISCSI and fiber channel.  Knowledge of and experience with Citrix, Crystal Enterprise Server, and VOIP not required, but preferred. Ability to:  Lead projects, prioritize tasks, meet project schedule requirements; remain current with advancing industry technology; work effectively with users, technical personnel and consultants to achieve stated objectives; conduct research, prepare reports and recommendations; establish and maintain effective working relations with co-workers and customers; communicate effectively verbally and in writing; exercise initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; demonstrated problem solving ability; responding effectively to customer service requests; learn new skills quickly.  Skills in:  Backup and disaster recovery strategies; time management; analyzing, identifying and implementing solutions to technical problems; analyzing equipment and system malfunctions and determining effective solutions; responding effectively to customer service requests; assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands; interpreting technical instructions and analyzing complex variables; using initiative and independent judgment within established procedural guidelines; oral and written communication.

ENVIRONMENT FACTOR:  Work is performed in a standard office environment.

PHYSICAL FACTORS:  Light physical demands. Ability to lift up to twenty-five (25) pounds; frequent use of a personal computer.

WORK SITUATION FACTORS:  Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues.
