DESCRIPTION: Human
Resources Director, for Macomb County, Michigan, (population 788,000/482 square
miles), an award-winning county which is located in southeastern Michigan, and
comprises the northeastern portion of the Detroit Metropolitan Area. This
quickly growing, progressive and dynamic county seeks an energetic, experienced
senior-level HR leadership professional to manage and direct its Human Resources
Department (25 employees/$2.8 million budget), servicing 3000 full and part-time
employees, as well as 1200 retirees while overseeing Labor Relations,
Recruitment, Compensation, Benefits, Legal Compliance and Employee Development.
This outstanding opportunity requires an experienced HR professional with a
successful management background who has very strong labor relations/collective
bargaining skills, as Macomb County union employees (who are both union and
non-union) work within 14 bargaining units with 29 collective bargaining
agreements. In addition, excellent communication skills, a positive, mature
approach to dealing with people, a customer-service oriented attitude and the
ability to cultivate these skills throughout the organization is crucial. A
background in public sector would be desirable, but not required. The HR
Director will be reporting to a governing Board of 26 Commissioners; experience
in a similar organizational environment would be helpful. A Bachelor’s degree
in HR, Business, or Public Administration is required; a Master’s or Law degree
is preferred.
Macomb’s County seat and Administrative Offices are located in Mt. Clemens,
Michigan, along 31 miles of Lake St. Clair shoreline. If confidentiality is
required, please request that in writing.
