DESCRIPTION: The City of Alexandria, Virginia is conducting a
national search for a new Director of Human Resources to join one of the best
managed cities in the nation. Alexandria is the seventh largest city in the
Commonwealth of Virginia (pop. 140,000) and has 2,381 full-time staff and a
total budget of $586.5 million. The position reports to the City Manager and
oversees a department of 22 employees with an operating budget of $3 million.
Ideal candidates will be visionary and exceptional leaders, capable of planning
and directing the services of this vital department, and coordinating efforts
with other divisions and City departments within a sophisticated, fast-paced
environment. The ideal candidate must have substantial management experience in
various areas of Human Resources, change management, and best practices. The
ideal candidate will have considerable supervisory experience, a solid
understanding of technology, and a proven track record of success.
Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Public
Administration, or a closely related field, is required. A Master’s degree in
Business or Public Administration is preferred. Appropriate HR-related
credentials are also preferred.
