COMPENSATION: Full Salary Range: $6,367 - $8,722 per month; Anticipated Hiring Range: $6,367 - $6,872 per month

DESCRIPTION:  Whatcom County Planning and Development Services Department seeks a proven leader for the role of Division Manager in the Building Services Division. This important position is responsible for planning and directing the efforts of staff while maintaining high level customer service to citizens and other agencies. Responsible for overseeing the Building Services Division, including Plans Examiners, Public Service Inspectors, Permit Center staff and the Fire Marshall’s Office. 

Key duties include: Oversight and management of the Building Services Division including: Managing the effective and reasonable enforcement of the International Code Council codes; Serving the department as the Certified Building Official; Overseeing implementation of required services, including screening, plan checks, inspections, fire services, and discretionary permit review; Serving as the County’s Deputy Fire Marshall, working in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office and Fire Districts to provide fire prevention, inspection and building safety services; Advising the County Council, Director of Planning and Development Services, fire districts and building associations on matters related to buildings and codes; Training, supervising and evaluating assigned staff; Major project oversight.

Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field AND 5 years progressively responsible related experience, OR  Four International Code Council (ICC) Certifications including: Plans Examiner Certification, Building Inspector Certification, and two or more additional ICC Certifications within the Building, Fire or Life Safety Code Edition categories AND 10 years progressively responsible related experience.  2 years of lead or supervisory experience.  Certified Building Official certification preferred.
