Medford is located approximately 20 miles from the California border on the I-5 corridor. Medford is the demographic and economic hub of the southern Oregon region.  The City is expected to grow in population to 112,000 by 2027. Reporting directly to the City Manager, the Planning Director plans, organizes, coordinates, and directs the activities and operations of the Planning Department.  The Department includes two Divisions: Current Planning and Long-Range Planning. The Director is expected to make frequent presentations to the City Council and be skilled at interpreting complex land use and community development issues to a variety of audiences.  He/She administers and maintains the Land Development Code and the Comprehensive Plan.  The Planning Director is also a key member of the Department Head Team which meets weekly as a group with the City Manager. A bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, urban or regional planning, architecture, urban design or related field is required; a Master’s degree in a planning related field is preferred.  Seven years of progressively responsible planning experience including three or more years of management experience as director, assistant director or equivalent experience is required.  The City of Medford is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
