DESCRIPTION: Prosser,
dubbed the Birthplace of the Washington Wine Industry, is known for its growing
number of beautiful wineries and the tourism they generate. Boasting 300 sunny
days annually, the city offers a wide range of outdoor activities, including
hunting, fishing, camping, boating and golf. Prosser offers citizens a “small
town” quality of life with easy access to major shopping, medical care and other
amenities. With the work load growing rapidly, the City Council created a new
position for a City Clerk. Initially, the City Clerk will report directly to the
Finance Director, however it is anticipated the City Clerk will become a
department head within a year. The City Clerk directs and oversees the City’s
records management and retention program citywide; they serve as custodian of
official City records and documents. The City Clerk develops procedures for the
protection, identification and recovery of vital records. The City Clerk is
responsible for preparing agendas, minutes, and Council packets. The City Clerk
maintains the City website to ensure the site is current at all times. They
recommend and implement changes or updates to the website which are beneficial
to the community. The City Clerk may utilize cooperative strategies to
administer information systems, depending on the selected candidate.
A bachelor’s degree in business management, records management, public
administration or a related field is required. The ideal candidate will possess
a minimum of four years of related work experience, or any equivalent
combination of education and progressively responsible experience, with
additional work experience substituting for the required education on a year for
year basis. Municipal Clerk Certification is preferred. The candidate must be
bondable and must possess and be able to maintain a Notary Public certification,
or ability to obtain certification within six months.
